Madison describes faction differently in Federalist No.10, but in actuality the definitions have the same meaning. Madison’s definition is derived from a listing of requirements. Review of the Video Non-Profit Marketing

Question: Discuss about the Review of the Video Non-Profit marketing? Answer: Social innovation and social entrepreneurship have really changed in todays world but in the words of Dan Pallottas TED Talk- The Way We Think About Charity Is Dead Wrong- it has made us realize that its not just that the marketing of various social initiatives is seen as a waste of money, but also many factors like compensation being too low in this social sector which effects participation in this sector. Also discrimination in advertising and marketing- for profit sector we are ready to spend our single last penny on advertising but the people who donate money are not ready to let their money being used on the marketing of fundraisers which can help so many more people. Dan has clearly mentioned other factors such as profit, new ideas and time itself. We all ready to say that there is no innovation in the social sector initiatives, but are we ready to even research on the same. Having so much patience for our stocks not giving us returns in years, but for our social investment- w e need returns so early. With all of this in picture, we need our money to be spent on something very productive but no overhead costs. And this all makes us so different. And moreover if all of this happens in a positive manner, all those unlucky people who dont have access to nominal facilities even will get their share of life. In Dans words, if all of this happen- thats a real SOCIAL INNIVATION. References Pallotta, Dan (2013) TED Video- The Way We Think About Charity Is Dead Wrong. Motivation additionally and in accordance to various motivation theories can be defined as a need to minimize physical pain or suffering and maximize pleasure. Discussion The respondents as illustrate were in the range of 17 years and 24 and above years. It’s evident that most the respondent’s stay in Australia is not too long. For instance, for most female its in the range of 7 months to one year. For most male, it’s between below three months and four to six months. On a survey on the major reason for finding a job being the salary as the motivating factor, most male were indifferent on the issue while most of the women were of the opinion that it’s the chief reason as to why people find a job. Information technology has brought in greater convenience, effectiveness and efficiency and can to offer more banking products to customers in the banking sector. For instance, banks offer Automated Teller Machines (ATMS), EFTPOST, telephone banking and internet banking which are modern and convenient modes of faster banking. The banks highly recommend and encourage their customers to use the telephone and or internet banking, as opposed to the earlier branch based visit services. The extension of the internet banking services goes along with the customer perception, acceptance and the satisfaction derived from the use of such services. The internet banking transaction services was introduced in the 1980’s and has seen profuse growth and is highly expected to see more growth with the development of more technological innovations. This is as was denoted by Peterson in 2006. A survey conducted consisting of sixty shoppers in Glenferrie Road, Hawthorn in 2006 focused on the banking services used by customers, the population that uses and that which does not use the e-banking services. Also, the consumer behavior as to the possible reasons why customers decide on the appropriate mode of banking transaction was looked into. Out of 60 respondents, 34 were men and 26 were women. Income wise, it was shown that the majority of people earned below $1500 per week in the age bracket of 18 to 40 years. A portion of those who were 40 years and above earned between $3000 and $ 5000 per month. Most people interviewed held savings account. Non-internet banking services users consisted of 14%, and were less likely to hold a cheque account compared to e-bank users who consisted of 33%. The access of banking services through the branch consisted of 83% of the respondents. The commo n mode of accessing banking services was by use of the Automated Teller Machines and EFTPOST. The survey showed that ATMS were often used 60% of the population used in the survey, 37% of the respondents used EFTPOST, 7% never used ATMS and 25% never used EFTPOST. Telephone and internet banking were not intensively used. Recommendations It’s most evident that most people really value investing in themselves through work with the major goal and expectation of a motivating factor reward in the form of monetary terms. Conducive measures therefore to practice people’s hard earned skills on the job needs to be put in place to encourage them to work even much harder. Since its evident that study of more courses goes in line with higher salaries, such different courses should be well laid emphasis on and mentorship on the same should be highly encouraged.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Motivation and Banking specifically for you for only $16.0 5 $11/page Learn More People should be encouraged to work hard for what they really believe in and actually dream to achieve in their future as most jobs suit who they are. As most people would go greater lengths in terms of achieving their dreams of the work they desire most, they should be widely encouraged to follow their dreams even if it would mean travelling a lot. The basic reason for using the banking services as shown by most people is to gaining access to cash used for different transactional purposes. The second most reason is making of deposits through the cheque or cash. A few used the banking services to check for their bank balances (Lee, 103). The main advantage of the telephone and internet use of banking services is that they do not require the physical appearance of the person concerned (Gkoutzinis, 243). Additionally, the modes do not require the use of cards to identify with the person, but rely solely on electronic transmission of identification of access codes and numbers or appropriate passwords. The major reason for use of e-banking as portrayed by a number of respondents was due to time-saving mechanism, convenience, full time availability and cost effective. This is because the e-banking services can be accessed majorly from home, the work place, and even the study place. The reasons as to why some people do not use the internet banking services includes the ignorance that people may have on the use and access of the e-banking services. Also, some quote of security reasons due to the increasing number of hackers and robberies. Nevertheless, some thought it very useful to learn on the use of the e-banking banking services. Lack of adequate information on the use of the e-banking services was a major reason as to why some people did not use these services. E-banking permits the full access to account balances, funds transfers between accounts and account payments. The accessibility to the bank account are varied from dif ferent customers for instance some have daily access depending on their needs, while others on a monthly basis. Those who frequently use the bank services have a favor in using the e-banking services. Most of e-bank uses, in fact, have more than one account. The income levels of different bank service users determine the account that they operate. The high-income earners for instance use the e-banking facility frequently since they have numerous transactions and e-banking have an ideal convenient platform for this. There is a great desire for more information as postulated by the non e-banking users.Advertising Looking for essay on psychology? Let's see if we can help you! People should also strive to achieve that which they believe in. Also, superb working conditions should be put in place to allow for people to work in conducive conditions which will support their lives. The banks hence have a role to educate the bank services users on the importance of the use of the internet banking. In conclusion, it is apparent that the banking services have changed greatly in the recent years and customers have resulted to the use of ATMS and EFTPOST, telephone banking and internet banking. The gender is highly insignificant in the determination of the account to be used by individuals. It is also evident that high-income earners are likely to adopt the use of telephone banking and internet banking with a lower usage by the lower-income earners. Banks, therefore, have a duty to promote their e-banking services and enlighten their customers on their major importance. Cited work Gkoutzinis, Apostolos Ath. My Mothers Words

My Mothers Words Free Online Research Papers Mothers say a lot of things. Some words you hear once and forget, but some linger as you grow and mature. I remember this one conversation I had with my mother when I was about thirteen or 14 years old. I didnt know any better, but I was getting older and more ladylike. My mother had a rough life, but even now she would love to see me walk up on that stage and graduate college with my classmates. She said in a teary voice, â€Å"Find jobs were you don’t have to bust your butt all day and night just to make ends meet.† She was a teenage mother, struggling to take care of me, while she had to find a good work schedule. She never completed her education; therefore she tried to push me into doing something for myself. My mother and I never really talked much, but this time was special. She wanted to talk about boys my age and their intentions. The words she said to me, and the explanation she gave me, would stay in my head forever. Every time I would even look at a b oy, I would think of her, and what shes been through. It was a cool breezy day in January 2006, when my mother called for me. She said, â€Å"Sit down we need to have a little talk.† I looked at her and said, â€Å"Talk, about what?† Then there was a silence. It was no ordinary silence it was more like a serious silence, that you know its time to get serious. She then asked me, â€Å"Have you been thinking of boys or more like a boyfriend?† I laughed and told her, â€Å"Are you serious?† Next thing you know, she was off telling me all about those sneaky boys. All I could do was sit back and listen to every word she had to say. My mother then sits next to me and out poured the words. â€Å"There comes a time when you will fall in love or so think you are in love.† She continues and explains that these so called boys will ask me out on dates, or ask for my phone number. I’m sitting and thinking, â€Å"This is not happening.† She then raised her voice a little and said, â€Å"It will be easy for you to hand over your phone number and accept that first date.† She was telling me that she only wanted the best for me and therefore, she would trust me to make good choices. My mother talks with her hands so while she was telling me, all I saw were hand gestures all over the place. She exclaimed, â€Å"Give yourself the respect you deserve!† She was trying to imply that if I respect myself, then the boys will respect me. She told me some of her thoughts and things she didn’t want repeated and done to me. As she looked down she said, â€Å"Don’t believe anything they say, I may have made a few mistakes in my life.† She looked at me and I saw a tear flow down her cheek. She said, â€Å"I wouldn’t want you to be a teen mother, like myself, having to drop school and working a full time mediocre job.† My mother then explained, â€Å"It’s a tough world out there, especially without someone to be there for guidance and support.† She grabbed my knee and said, â€Å"There will be plenty of time for children of your own and plenty of boys.† She also mentioned that I shouldn’t let anybody put my self-esteem down. Finally she took a deep breath and said, â€Å"Don’t think of anything I said to you now, but somewhere along in your life you will notice you’re becoming a young woman.† She calmly walked toward the door and said, â€Å"Then you will sit back and think about this conversation with your mother.† This conversation only took about 2 to 3 minutes. To me it was almost half a day, it was nice, and for my mother to talk to me that way made me realize that I was in a way becoming a young woman. When I am alone, I go for walks at the mall, or at the park. I look at everything and I can’t believe my eyes. There are young teenage girls becoming mothers for the first time. Some of these girls won’t even go back to pursue their education. Sometimes I wonder what it would be like, if I hadn’t had that conversation with my mother. Time goes by really fast and you don’t realize it, until you are in a struggle. Then and only then, do I remember those words and say to myself, â€Å"I am so proud of having such a role model in my life, like my mother, to guide me and be there for emotional and unconditional support.† Thank you, mother, because if it weren’t for you I wouldn’t be where I am at this very moment. How to Template Your Site in HTML and PHP

How to Template Your Site in HTML and PHP When each page of your website follows the same design theme, it is  easy to create a template for the site using HTML and PHP. The specific pages of the site hold only their content and not their design. This makes design changes easy because changes take place on all the pages of the website at once, and there is no need to individually update specific pages when the design changes. Creating a Site Template The first thing you need to do is create a file called header.php. This file holds all the page design elements that come before the content. I have to write a research paper on the evolution of crying

I have to write a on the evolution of crying - Research Paper Example It is the hope of this author that such an analysis will provide the reader with a greater understanding of human emotional/evolutionary responses as well as the means by which such responses are understood, translated, and acted upon by individuals. Naturally, an evolutionary understanding of the process of crying necessarily requires both a biological, physiological, psychological, and sociological approach. Accordingly, each of these approaches will be analyzed at some length been the preceding analysis. Likewise, in addition to analyzing Charles Darwin and his theories put forward in The Expression of Emotions in Man and Animals, current research within the past seven years on the topic will also be heavily relied upon in order to draw a level of inference an understanding on to the subject matter at hand. As with many forms of scientific analysis that seek to draw inference with regards to the early evolution of mankind, it is not always possible to draw directly upon the extant /hard evidence in order to prove the complexities surrounding such a level of emotional and survival – linked behavior. Rather, it is necessary to draw upon current evidence and help to link it to the needs based approach that has so often been proven to exist with regards to the biological process of evolution. ... Said Darwin in The Expression of Emotions in Man and Animals, â€Å"The primary function of the secretion of tears, with some mucus, is to lubricate the surface of the eye, and a secondary one, as some believe, is to keep the nostrils damp, so that the inhaled air may be moist, and likewise to favorites power of smelling. But another, and at least equally important function of tears is to wash out particles of dust or other minute objects which make it into the eyes† (Darwin, 2007). From such an observation, the reader can easily determine that although Darwin was cognizant of the fact that human tears were an exhibition that was unique within the animal kingdom, he did not seem to place a very high-value on the way in which the emotional excretion of tears was important or relevant to the evolutionary process itself (Coulson, 2011). Naturally, such an oversight simplifies the expression of tears and calls into question why humans have developed such a response in such stark c ontrast to the other members of the animal kingdom. Ultimately, Darwin does not provide a reasonable rationale for this and such a question has been left up to more recent evolutionary research on to this topic. Although will not be the express purpose of this analysis to analyze other evolutionary interpretations, it must be understood that prior to the last 15 to 20 years, almost all evolutionary explanations surrounding human crying were concentric upon trying to define it as a necessary biological function that helps to lubricate mucous membranes, expunge the body of toxins, or other non-emotional or impact that can definitions and understandings of such an exhibition. However, recent research has helped to broaden the understanding and

Corporate finance (Accounting) Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Corporate finance (Accounting) - Essay Example By capital budgeting of an entity we mean a detailed planning of capital assets. The decision about capital budgeting helps in determining whether or not the money should be invested in long term projects. When we consider the Research and Development projects of G&H PLC for the purpose of better decision making, we find that the fundamental project evaluation techniques like Pay back period, ARR (Accounting or Average Rate of Return), NPV (Net Present Value), or IRR (Internal Rate of Return) are applicable. The initial outlay or initial investment of the project of G&H Plc is 4m, i.e. 4000000. Pay Back Period= 4000000, i.e. ( '000s), Option A= 4000/468= 8.547 years approximately, and for option B= 4000/305= 13.114years approximately. If both options are considered in fact option A has 8.5years and B has more than 13years, but option B has a much higher return than option A, so it should be preferred. Assume that net income for the first year is taken for both options, and there is no scrap taking place. Both these options are not equal since the profit in Option B starts accruing at a much higher level as compared to the profits of Option A. So, ARR fails to give stress for the concept of Time Value of Money. 1RR= It means, the sum total of cash inflows after discounting equals to the discounted cash outflows. Under IRR, the discount rate makes the NPV of the project equal to zero. Assume that, here, in both options the discounted value is in between 10% and 12%. Take inflow of 10% given in the table above and 12% factor for Option A assumes 750.9 and Option B assumes 1750.3 approximately. IRR= r+ PVCFAT_ PVCO/PV*r Here, PVCO= present Value of cash outlay.

Tax Treatments for Individual Returns Essay Example for Free

Tax Treatments for Individual Returns Essay A. Recommended Tax Filing Status The tax filing status that I would recommend is Married Filing Joint. The reason for this is that the IRS has various tax breaks for married persons that file together that are unavailable if you file married filing separate. It also affect the tax rate, they will pay a lower rate of taxes if they file together than they would if they filed separately. A2a. Taxable and Non-Taxable Income Taxable Income for the couple would include the following items: Spouse A’s income from the partnership, Spouse A’s income from the part time job, Spouse B’s income from the electronics firm, and the dividends that were received by Spouse A from Company E. Their Non-Taxable Income items would be: The child support that spouse B receives (child support is nontaxable because it was taxed as income on the parent that is paying it), the interest received on Municipal Bonds (municipal bonds are tax exempt), and the income on the sale of their personal residence is tax exempt because it was their primary residence and they lived there for the required amount of time for the exemption of 500,000 (since they are joint filers). A2b. Capital Gains and Losses The couple has 5,000 in short term capital losses from the day trading while spouse B was unemployed. These losses can be netted against any capital gains that may exist. For example if the sale of the rental property resulted in a long term capital gain, however the rental property is a passive activity so the short term loss can only be claimed for 3,000 and the remaining amount would be carried forward. A2c. Profit or Losses from Sale of Property The profit from sale of the couple’s personal residence would not be taxed. Their personal residence was lived in for at least 2 of the last 5 years and  was under the cut off of the exemption of 500,000 after their adjusted basis calculation was deducted from their sale price. The profit from the sale of the rental property would be taxed as mention in the paragraph above. Depending on how the adjusted basis came out it would either be an ordinary loss or a capital gain. A2d. Partnership Income and Losses Spouse A received a K-1 reporting the share of the partnership income as 142,000. This amount will be reported by the couple on their schedule 1040 as income. The cash withdrawal of 83,500 would most likely not be considered a gain (the determining factor for this is whether or not the amount of Spouse A’s interest in the partnership is higher or lower than the withdrawal amount.) A2e. / A3. Passive Activity Gains and Losses The couple has passive activity from the rental properties that they own but are managed by a local realty company, which means they are not actively participating. Their gross rents are 23,000 and their expenses/depreciation total 29,200. The result of this activity is a passive loss of $6,200.00 The couple also has the gain on the sale of the rental property that could be passive because again it is from their rental properties that they do not actively participate in. The maximum amount of loss they could claim from rental properties is 25,000 per the IRS regulations. A4. Adjustments to Income (on the 1040 form this area is called Adjusted Gross Income) There are multiple adjustments and deductions available to the couple in the 1040 AGI section. The alimony that Spouse A pays can be listed in this section as an adjustment, this will lower their income. Because alimony paid is a deduction to the payer. Alternatively the child support amount that they have listed will not affect anything; you do not need to include it in your income so it is not an adjustment to income. Spouse A’s health  insurance would qualify them for a self-employed health insurance deduction. The contributions to Spouse A’s Keogh plan are also an adjustment to income, this is because they can be deducted in the year they are contributed so that the contributions to the plan are â€Å"tax free†. However, I am unsure about the calculation of maximum because the IRS states that: â€Å"Retirement plans for self-employed people were formerly referred to as â€Å"Keogh plans† after the law that first allowed unincorporated businesses to sponsor retirement plans. Since the law no longer distinguishes between corporate and other plan sponsors, the term is seldom used.† (Retirement Plans for Self-Employed People, 2014) The moving expenses are not an adjustment to Income, the reason for this is that on form 3903 there is a distance test worksheet, when the calculation is done it shows the move was not a difference of 50 or more miles since the move was 52 miles minus the distance to her previous job of 3 miles it is only 49. This does not qualify them to deduct their expenses. A5. Deductions The itemized deductions that the couple would be allowed to take are a deduction for their medical expenses in the amount of expenses that exceeds 10% of their Adjusted Gross Income (line 38 on 1040). So they would take their 10% of their AGI and subtract that number from their total medical expenses and the remaining amount is the available deduction. I don’t believe this would result in much of a deduction if any in their situation. The 6,000 in charitable contributions would be an itemized deduction. However, the 2,600 in business suits is not a valid deduction because you can wear a business suit as everyday clothing. If the clothing were a uniform or something more specifically required by the job that she would not be able to wear in place of her everyday clothes then the amount would be deductible. Due to these calculations, I would recommend to the couple that they take the standard deduction of 12,200 because I believe this would be higher than  their total for itemized deductions. A6. Tax credits Because the couple has a dependent that is in college and living at home they may be eligible to take the American opportunity credit or the lifetime learning credit these credits are available to someone that pays college expenses for themselves or a dependent. They cannot take both however, only one education credit is allowed per year so they would want to calculate which is more beneficial. The couple has dependent children, so they might also be able to take a child tax credit of up to 1,000 per child however, their adjusted gross income may be too high which would phase the credit out to 0. Without doing all of the calculations I am not certain as to whether or not they would actually get this credit. It is also possible that they would qualify for a savers credit which is based upon contributions to a qualifying retirement plan, but again I am not sure if they would end up being over the adjusted gross income limit to receive this credit. Oppression in Ibsens Hedda Gabler Essay -- Hedda Gabler Essays

Oppression in Ibsen's Hedda Gabler One of the social issues dealt with in Ibsen's problem plays is the oppression of women by conventions limiting them to a domestic life. In Hedda Gabler the heroine struggles to satisfy her ambitious and independent intellect within the narrow role society allows her. Unable to be creative in the way she desires, Hedda's passions become destructive both to others and herself. Raised by a general (Ibsen 1444), Hedda has the character of a leader and is wholly unsuited to the role of "suburban housewife" (1461). Since she is unable to have the authority she craves, she exercises power by manipulating her husband George. She tells Thea, "I want the power to shape a man's destiny" (1483). Hedda's unsuitability for her domestic role is also shown by her impatience and evasiveness at any reference to her pregnancy. She confides to Judge Brack, "I've no leanings in that direction" (1471). Hedda desires intellectual creativity, not just the procreative power that binds her to a limited social function. But because her only means of exercising power is through a "credulous" husband (1490), Hedda envies Thea's rich intellectual partnership with Eilert Loevborg (1484), which produces as their creative "child" a bold treatise on the future of society (1473-74, 1494). Hedda's rivalry with Thea for power over Eilert is a conflict between Hedda's dominating intellect (s ymbolized by her pistols) and the traditionally feminine power of beauty and love (symbolized by Thea's long hair). Because Hedda lacks Thea's courage to leave her husband and risk ostracism, she tries to satisfy her intellect within society's constraints. First she seeks power through wealth and social status, marrying George on the condi... ...da bows to Thea's beautiful hair and, after playing a last dance on the piano, admits defeat: "Not free. Still not free! . . . From now on I'll be quiet" (1506-07). Hedda's tragedy is that she is denied the freedom to realize her creative potential, and so have the self-esteem that comes from personal achievement. Her attempt to retain her independence within society prevents her, through fear of scandal, from marrying the man with whom she might have had a relationship both individually satisfying and mutually supportive. In Hedda's suicide are seen the stifling of intellect and the emotional isolation caused by oppression, even within a commonplace bourgeois family where "People don't do such things!" (1507). Interview with President of Medela Corporation

For this interview, I was so fortunate to have President of Medal Corporation Dry. Quickens with me on Monday. Dry. Quickens as a guest speaker for course ASSESS operation management invited by Professor Burger. Medal Corporation is a company provides quality products like breastplate and breastfeeding accessories for the needs of nursing mothers around the world. Medal is a Swiss privately held company; it based in Machinery, IL, has more than 600 of employees with about $400 million revenue last year. They are business-to-business based company have about 6,000 customers around 35 countries worldwide. He mentioned their product flow process, the first two steps kind like the Chapter 3 in the textbook. First, they will do Forecasting which also means estimate how many PANS retail customers will order so their supplier â€Å"MINCE† can buy parts to build product for them. The reason for that is because Medal products only when they get an order, also known as â€Å"make-to-ord er†, not â€Å"make-to-stock†.Second step is Demand Planning; elect all PANS' forecast by all departments, retailers, hospitals and hundreds of MINCE Stock keeping units as well. Then is Supply Chain using lead times ERP software calculates parts to order and when, also the pre-step of purchasing. After that they Purchasing, taking Customer orders, making Production Planning, then having Warehouse ready and finally they start Production process and shipping them to customers around nationwide. Then Medal realized getting breast milk from mom to baby is not enough for them from the marketing point of view. As its target market evolves, they should continue to stay relevant to their customer's needs, which is mom. Mom nowadays is very different from any pried of time with different values, behaviors and media habits. The things like social media and smartness. These Moms are true digital native people. So, in order to truly connect their special needs, Medal come up the id ea to build a social media system.By using this way, they not only could give mothers' access to the information and education about the benefits o proper use their feeding system, but also as part of company's social media strategy, it also essential for facilitating their brand relationship with mothers' values and trusts. Medal's development plan is focusing on helping mothers meet their breastfeeding goals, and support their efforts, which is to breastfeed longer. Mothers can communicate their experiences to each other through this software. Also by providing this software 2417 all day ability support and available for all the mothers. The benefit from the marketing point of view on the one hand could attracted more mothers using this, on the other hand could help them to build a biggest and activist mother social communities ever. Mothers actually get points according to how active they are on the site. By reaching certain points Medal will send they some coupon online. And for the company later could use this to lunch their new products with low cost of advertising all thanks for this brilliant system. Dry. Quickens mentioned â€Å"its not about price for our products, its about the products experiences and what can do for all their customers. †

The Anatomy of a Decision

At the end of John Updike’s short story, all the main characters were at odds with each other. A&P grocery store clerk Sammy, who is the main protagonist of the story, Lengel the manager of the grocery store, and the three young bikini-clad ladies who caught Sammy’s attention, were all arguing over the dress code of the store. The ladies in bikinis just came by to buy a herring snacks from the grocery, much to the delight of Sammy, who enjoyed observing and sexually fantasizing about the bodies of the three women. However, the ladies were reprimanded by Lengel for their inappropriate clothing which he deemed should only be worn in a beach. Seeing that the ladies of his interest were embarrassed, Sammy willingly resigns from his job in order to stand for what he feels is right. On a personal note, although his decision to quit his job as a store clerk in order to protect the ladies’ interests is notable, I do not agree with Sammy’s actions simply because it w as immature and irrational. At the beginning of the story, Sammy fantasizes about the ladies, who enter the grocery store in bikinis, like any young boy would. He observes their clothing and bodies in a very detailed manner as if he wanted to remove them himself: â€Å"There was this chunky one, with a two-piece. It was bright green and the seams on the bra were still sharp and her belly was still pretty pale† (Updike, 1961).He also comes up with his own opinion of their personalities: â€Å"There was this one, with one of those chubby berry-faces, the lips all bunched together under her nose, this one, and tall one, with black hair that had not quite frizzed right†¦. You know their kind of girl other girls think very ‘Striking’ and ‘Attractive.’ She was the queen with ‘Long white prima-Donna legs’† (Updike, 1961). In short, his vivid descriptions of the three ladies no doubt show that he has a profound interest in them, which taints the moral justification of his decision to quit his job.Initially, it would appear that his resignation was mainly to protest the undue embarrassment that his boss, Lengel, caused the ladies. However, as shown in the end, Sammy’s move was primarily for the purpose of appearing as a hero to the three women. When he decided to quit his job, Sammy said, â€Å"The girls, and who'd blame them, are in a hurry to get out, so I say ‘I quit’ to Lengel quick enough for them to hear, hoping they'll stop and watch me, their unsuspected hero.† Meaning to say, although he pointed out that he resigned in protest of his manager’s harsh actions towards the ladies, his actions were simply meant for show.Clearly, Sammy’s actions were signs of immaturity, which is arguably common among people his age. One does not simply quit a job in order to show off to women. His decision can be likened to a young boy desperately trying to impress a girl he likes, but fails in his attempt. He is a classic case of acting first without thinking and only realizing the folly of his actions after seeing the end result, which is expectedly not what he desires. Sammy obviously acted on impulse and as a result, the consequences were severe. As implied in the story, Sammy’s job as a clerk in the A&P grocery store is very important to his parents, who possibly partially depend on his income. As Lengel said in his attempt to convince Sammy to reconsider his decision to quit, â€Å"Sammy, you don’t want to do this to your Mom and Dad† (Updike, 1961.). It can then be deduced that Sammy was not only working for himself but also helping his parents augment their family income.Meaning to say, Sammy’s decision to resign from his job possibly had a greater impact than what he imagined. And he realized this in the end, as he knew that his parents would not understand and accept that the reason behind his sacrifice to protest the actions o f Lengel, whom he believes was very harsh towards the girls.Furthermore, despite his belief that what he did was heroic, Sammy cannot, in any way, be conceived as a hero in the context of the story simply because his efforts were fruitless. Although it can be argued that Sammy symbolizes a revolt against the prejudicial mentality epitomized by Lengel, in the end, the former still gained nothing out of his actions and therefore, cannot be considered as someone who fought for a justifiable cause.

Berlese Funnel Lab Report Essay Example

Berlese Funnel Lab Report Essay Example Berlese Funnel Lab Report Paper Berlese Funnel Lab Report Paper Antonio Berryless was an Italian entomologist. He worked on pest insects (arthropods), usually those of fruit trees. Arthropods are the most successful animals on the planet. They make up over three. Fourths of all currently known living and fossil organisms. But, many still remained undocumented. Berryless funnels are used for extracting arthropods from soil and litter samples such as our leaf litter. They are supposed to prove that insects that normally live in soil or litter will respond negatively to light. That is why we place the cognomens lamp above the funnels. There are many different ways to make a Berryless funnel and you can also purchase them according to how big you would like them. An alternative to the Berryless funnel is a Hinkler Sack. It is usually made of fabric and can be folded to take up even less space when not in use. They do not require a powered light source because without it the arthropods will still move downwards through the samples and eventually fall into a container of ethanol. Materials: Fields Components: 4 Flags index card clipboard tape measure field guide to trees and shrubs pencil and paper one-gallon copilot bag poster board and making tape (Berryless funnel) gloves Laboratory Components: compound microscope spoilsport alcohol dissecting (binocular) microscope Berryless funnel (Constructed day one) depression slide cognomens lamp Petri dish inning stand pipette of dropper 250 ml beaker identification guides to arthropods Procedures: Day 1 Make Berryless funnel out of poster board and tape with small bottom opening to trap leaf litter but allow arthropods to drop out Place in ring stand Set up a cognomens lamp that shines directly on lead litter Place beaker underneath funnel and ring stand Walked out to designated forest area on campus Measure out a SOCIO meter square and mark each edge with a flag.

Bill Clinton As Vice President - Constitutional Issue

Bill Clinton As Vice President - Constitutional Issue The question of whether Bill Clinton could be elected vice president and be allowed to serve in that capacity surfaced during the 2016 presidential election when his wife, Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, jokingly told interviewers the idea had crossed my mind. The question goes deeper, of course, than just whether Bill Clinton could be elected and serve as vice president. Its about whether any president who has served out his  statutory limit of two terms as president could then serve as vice president and next in the line of succession to the commander in chief. The easy answer is: We dont know. And we dont know because no president whos served two terms has actually come back and tried to win election to vice president. But there are key parts of the U.S. Constitution that appear to raise enough serious questions about whether Bill Clinton or any other two-term president could later serve as a vice president. And there are enough red flags to keep any serious presidential candidate from picking someone like Clinton as a running mate. Generally speaking, a candidate wouldn’t want to select a running mate when there’s serious doubt about the running mate’s eligibility, and when there are many other good alternatives as to whom there’s no doubt, wrote Eugene Volokh, a professor at the UCLA School of Law. The Constitutional Problems With Bill Clinton Being Vice President The 12th Amendment to the U.S.Constitution states that â€Å"no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States.† Clinton and other former U.S. presidents clearly met the eligibility requirements to be vice president  at one point - that is, they were at least 35 years old at the time of the election, they had lived in the United States for at least 14 years, and they were natural born U.S. citizens. But then comes the 22nd Amendment, which states that no person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice. So now, under this amendment, Clinton and other two-term presidents are rendered ineligible to be president again. And that ineligibility to be president, according to some interpretations, makes them ineligible to be vice president under the 12th amendment, though this interpretation has never been test by the U.S. Supreme Court. Clinton has been elected to the presidency twice. So he can no longer be elected to the presidency, according to the language of the 22nd Amendment. Does that mean he is constitutionally ineligible to serve as president, to use the language of the 12th Amendment? asked FactCheck.org journalist Justin Bank. If so, he could not serve as vice president. But finding out would certainly make for an interesting Supreme Court case. In other words, writes  Volokh in The Washington Post: Does constitutionally ineligible to the office of President mean (A) constitutionally barred from being  elected  to the office of President, or (B) constitutionally barred from  serving  in the office of President? If it means option A - if eligible is roughly synonymous, for elected offices, with electable - then Bill Clinton would be ineligible to the office of president because of the 22nd Amendment, and thus ineligible to the office of vice president because of the 12th Amendment. On the other hand, if eligible means simply constitutionally barred from serving, then the 22nd Amendment doesn’t speak to whether Bill Clinton is eligible for the office of president, since it only says that he may not be  elected  to that office. And because there’s nothing in the constitution that makes Clinton ineligible for the presidency, the 12th   Amendment doesn’t make him ineligible for the vice presidency. Cabinet Position Are Also Problematic for Bill Clinton Theoretically, the 42nd president of the United States would have been eligible to serve in his wifes cabinet, though some legal scholars might raise concerns if she were to nominate him  to secretary of the Department of State. It would have placed him in the line of succession to the presidency, and should his wife and her vice president have become unable to serve Bill Clinton would have become president - an ascension some scholars believe would have been in violation of the spirit of the Constitutions 22nd Amendment prohibition on presidents serving a third term.

Windows OS Upgrade Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3250 words

Windows OS Upgrade - Essay Example In this process they have been continuously creating & releasing new versions of their products and managing obsolescence of their old products via seamless migration procedures. However, every migration comes at a huge cost to an organization and hence an in-depth analysis of business benefits, risks and return on investments should be carried out by the IT managers before a technology migration project should be proposed to the management. This paper presents a detailed comparison of windows XP with Windows Vista & Windows 2000 with Windows 2003 and the corresponding business benefits such that the management of Riordan Manufacturing can take a decision regarding the migration of their existing desktop and server operating systems to the most suitable next versions of Windows Desktop and Server OS. Riordan Manufacturing has windows 2000 workstations and Windows 2000 servers in their network. Because of implied obsolescence of these two operating systems in the industry, the management of Riordan Manufacturing wants to upgrade their existing windows operating systems to the new versions of Windows that are most feasible for the business and can justify tangible return on investments. In this context, this paper presents an objective analysis of the new operating systems that can be the potential choice for deployment at Riordan Manufacturing. Microsoft has been proactively releasing new pr... as been proactively releasing new products with the features that are not yet recognized by the business as potential enablers to enhance employee productivity and customer satisfaction. In this context, upgradation to the latest available version may be an over-kill. Also, upgradation of operating system invites a number of other parallel investments in terms of hardware capacity, application compatibility, user training, administration training, related software upgradation, peripheral upgradation, etc. Hence, the new version of OS should have as much backward compatibility as possible to ensure that the related upgrades are minimized to as minimum as possible. The existing Windows operating systems and the future choices available for Riordan Manufacturing: The existing operating systems in Riordan manufacturing are Windows 2000 workstation and Windows 2000 server that have been very successful in the industry in meeting the business objectives of a variety of business domains. Given that Windows 2000 is an Active Directory Server based system, upgradation to Windows 2003 is seamless and an easy process. Many organizations have been able to carry out such project within a weekend without the users knowing about the migrations. However, upgrading from Windows 2000 to Windows XP or Windows Vista is not that easy because the change will be highly visible to the users and hence risk of reduction of user comfort levels & the corresponding reduction of user productivity is very high. Windows 2003 possesses enhancements of the features that are already built in Windows 2000 along with new technologies and features. Hence, it makes lot of business sense to upgrade from Windows 2000 to Windows 2003. However, transitioning directly to Windows 2008 may be quite a large
